Today we take a look at the Carpenter Library in Pittsfield, New Hampshire:
“Designed by architect William Butterfield, this building and land was a gift of Josiah and Georgianna Carpenter to the Town of Pittsfield. The stack room is fire proof and was originally lighted by gas. The granite steps are from Concord and the pilasters are of Indiana sandstone. Mr. Carpenter, then of Manchester, had been a prominent banker in Pittsfield for nearly 20 years. Mrs. Carpenter was the daughter of Pittsfield pioneer, Col. James Drake.”
