Picture of Kilburn Block in Littleton, New Hampshire

As part of our Building History series, we take a look at the Kilburn Block located in Littleton, New Hampshire:

“This block was completed in 1901 to house the Post Office and the men clothier Bellows and Baldwin, a 122-year enterprise founded in 19870 by the Bellows family.  On this site, Ephraim Curtis (1771-1825), owner of the Old Red Store, had built one of Maine Street’s first homes.  It was moved to Jackson Street and renovated when Benjamin W. Kilburn (1827-1909), the stereograph tycoon, built this Georgian Revival commercial block.  Upstairs are offices and apartments.  Kilburn’s appreciation of visual nuances is evident in the arched facade and an elaborate cornice ornamented with dentils and modillions.”
